‘Photographs made along a valley with a dry creek bed and sandstone escarpments in the Carnarvon Ranges, Queensland’ is a reasonably accurate statement. But it does not describe the relationship I have forged with the area over the past decade. I have visited Expedition National Park at least twenty times, camping for 8-12 days each time and did not fathom the way to photograph it until 2024... the start of a beautiful relationship!
 
In creating a body of work it is essential to see beyond the familiar. The photographer Thomas Joshua Cooper offers the aphorism, ‘Seeing leads to vision,’ which suggests entering fully into the place and time that a landscape offers us.
